12 images[edit]

Dear Christian,

If you have time, please help review these 12 quality images.

As an aside, If you are brave enough to upload This image please feel free to do so. Unfortunately, you would have to categorise it as Category:Hymenotorrendiella clelandii since the Hymenotorrendiella category doesn't even exist on Wikicommons. But the M.O. contributor knows what he is doing and MycoBank proves it exists under this current name. Thiotrix would know what to do but for me this species is a puzzle. That is what is good about M.O.--there are so many species which exist there which aren't even mentioned on Wikicommons.

Dear Christian,

If you have time this Easter Sunday, please help review these 13 images below.

As an aside, I had a target of 10-14 images...and I have reached that target as I intend to stop by April 1 or 2 my uploads from M.O. BUT if you have time, consider uploading This image And This image for Wikicommons....as Wikicommons has few examples of such species.

A tip on M.O. best images[edit]

Dear Christian,

This is just a tip for finding a contributor's best images. On M.O. there is this list of Contributors

  • Say you click on No.21 for Pastorino and you get this page Pastorino.
  • Next click on the Images link and you get this page.
  • Finally click on Image Quality and you get this large page where this person's top images are ranked usually in the top 1 to 10 pages.

You can repeat the process on other Contributors too but A. Rockefeller, D. Newman , G. Koller, O & A Ceska, D. Deshazer D. Smith , A. Khitsun, M. Lizevey are Not Free. The other problem is most contributors live in N. America. So, this person is different since he is in Australia. Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 19:50, 1 April 2018 (UTC)

  • Just to note, I never checked Pastorino's account for quality photos. Since he has MANY top images, his list could be from the top 1 to 15 or 18 pages. As an example, on page 9 of his best images if you check, there is an image of an Usnea intermedia (301181). Well no one ever uploaded it to Commons....and yet it is very highly rated. Secondly, on page 12 if you cheque there is a photo of a Stereum ochraceoflavum (604475). Well MycoBank names this species under this 'current name' but it Does Not exist on Commons. I could go on and on but this contributor is a quality contributor. I just retired from M.O. but I tell you many categories for species on Wikicommons are out of date. That is why I do a second check on MycoBank. Hopefully someone will have time to check this person's quality photos. Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 01:45, 2 April 2018 (UTC)
  • PS: On page 11 this contributor has a highly rated image of a Ramaria_araiospora (821823). Commons already has a category Ramaria_araiospora but there are few images in it. If there were 20 or more photos, I wouldn't bother uploading the image. But since there are few images and this is a high quality and high resolution photo, you might consider uploading it. A few images suggestions[edit]

If you have time, I could offer a few suggestions of needed images for Commons from Dodd's M.O. account.

Secondly, this quality image: http://mushroomobserver.org/image/show_image/843093?q=IUUP may be needed since Commons has only 5 images of a Clavulinopsis_sulcata



Fourthly these 2 quality images are probably necessary for Commons here: http://mushroomobserver.org/image/show_image/625627?q=IUUP & http://mushroomobserver.org/image/show_image/625625?obs=241516&q=IUUP since there is only 1 other image in its Common's Category

Deleted screenshot[edit]

Hello! Excuse me, if I made something that is not permitted by the rules of the Wikimedia Commons. I just uploaded my first file in the Wikipedia (the screenshot of the site page, which is public). Firstly I mixed up the type of the license, but then I pointed the author (the company that developes that site). Could you explain me what is the reason that you deleted my upload?   • Hello, to provide a source is not sufficient, this source must be free. See com:Licensing: "Wikimedia Commons only accepts media that are explicitly freely licensed". Regards, Christian Ferrer (talk) 10:32, 9 April 2018 (UTC)
  • But there was already the same screenshot in that Wikipedia's article for almost three years, and no one deleted it! I just updated its version, because it became not actual. That page of site is public, and anyone can see it and make screenshots. As you can see, the screenshot is the main page of the service. This accident is like someone uploaded the screenshot of the main page of Wikipedia's site and it was deleted because "it is not free". I repeat, excuse me, because I have not much experience, that picture was my first file in the Wikipedia. I restored the image, because it seems we already have similar screenshots from mail.ru, see Category:Mail.ru services because they give a free license. However maybe someone will think that there are derivative work issues, indeed the license may apply to the material owned by mail.re however the small thumbnails of images that we see may not be covered by this license. Hi. Regarding the above, this is my first time in creating an article and to be truthful, I'm finding it quite difficult and learning as I go along. However, I am contacting you regarding the 'possible copyright violation' regarding the image I uploaded. The image was the album cover relating to the first cassette i refer to in the article 'Rimbax' and I have permission from the owner Thio Mbaye to use this. Is it possible to reinstate it please?   • Hello, the visual of an album cover is protected by the copyright law. A publication here includes the acceptance to publish under licenses with specific conditions, read com:Licensing. In order to upload, or to reinstate, this kind of content the actual copyright holder must send a permission by mail to our permission system. Therefore, policy requires that the actual copyright holder, which is almost always the photographer or image designer, must send a free license directly using OTRS. Also, please note that it is a serious violation of Commons rules to upload an image a second time after deletion as you did here. It wastes your time and that of other Commons editors. Logos and trademarks are accepted in Wikimedia Commons only if

  1. they are in public domain (help) for a specific reason; or
  2. they are freely licensed by their owner, in such case please include a web link; or

  4. the copyright holder sends directly a permission to OTRS, where you can read how to do it. Note that even if it is you who are the copyright holder, you must send this permission.

If you have time, you should check the account above which has 12000 images. WS has a quality images of an Mitrula elegans here: http://mushroomobserver.org/image/show_image/740600?q=JKam which does not appear in this category:

I also saw another quality image of this species here...if you wish to upload it but it is by another person: http://mushroomobserver.org/image/show_image/741107?q=JKbV

In short, I checked on Commons and there is 249 images from WS's acount here. Some of his quality images are already on Commons. But since WS has so many images, it is worth it to check his account like Pastorino's for any more good images. I uploaded a few images from WS's account in the past...but it was nothing systematic at all.

This is another possible good image for this category: Category:Baeospora myosura

OR this Set of Aureoboletus innixus which is missing from Category:Aureoboletus

Deletion requests on Japanese logos[edit]

Hi, thank you for your work on DRs. it seems to me that your closure of these two might be premature, seeing that the logos were on the borderline: Commons:Deletion requests/File:Demashita! Powerpuff Girls Z logo.svg and Commons:Deletion requests/File:Dragon Ball Super logo.svg. The overall discussion was rather short and we could use stronger arguments from both side. (You might have thought it was clear cut, but if you take into account that File:Cup_Noodles.jpg's logo was not copyrightable by the judgment of the Supreme Court, I hope you will understand their treatment should be more nuanced.)

You cited COM:TOO#Japan (which I wrote, by the way) - since it comes from the wording of legal precedents in Japan, I don't think we should rely on our own judgment solely on how we interpret the (English) words 'artistic appreciation'. I think we should look at what were and were not considered as such by the court. Would you perhaps changing your closure to one vote of yours and reopen the cases? I'd suggest elaborating your comment after that - I'd like to elaborate my own, if I may. Thanks for your consideration! --whym (talk) 07:53, 19 April 2018 (UTC)

Regarding File:Demashita! Powerpuff Girls Z logo.svg, that can be seen there [1] for the non admin watchers, I disagree to change my closure. If I would have find it "not nominated for deletion" I would have very likely speedy deleted it as it is obvious to me that there is a will and an artistic result.

Regarding File:Dragon Ball Super logo.svg, it's indeed a bit more questionable. I'm a bit busy, just 30 minutes break this lunch today, but I will think about the question. I promise to keep you informed as soon as possible. Christian Ferrer (talk) 11:45, 19 April 2018 (UTC)
